Every fastener is stitched onto the tree, not glued onto the ornaments. Glue is what most felt trees use, because it is faster to make. We stitched ours because an adhesive dot is a thing that can lift, and we did not want the tree to have any. We also tuned the grip: firm enough that the ornaments stay where a child puts them, light enough that pulling one off does not bring the tree down with it.
